There's been multiple threads on here of people quitting the game because of this mission. There's literally videos on youtube of people making guides on how to survive the rat mission by rushing a wizard tower and hoping for the best, and surprisingly few people question why there's other videos of people beating the mission easily with no problem. The biggest problem with this game is people not knowing about the V-sync fix. X3 has a problem for example where due to not being designed to run on multi-core processors, the game will eventually become almost unplayable if you play it long enough on modern hardware. A lot of older games were not designed to run on modern hardware for a variety of reasons. its such a slight difference at the start of each map, but it takes the game from unplayable to actually fair Yeah I think it's due to a hardware oversight. That is the strategy used on almost every campaign and even some of the scenarios. place towers close to your castle and the palace guards protect your stuff until you are up and running. While this may be true the trick is to put all your buildings below your castle and early upgrade your castle once. The dragon mission is another example of this as you get hit with dozens of serpents around the time you are SUPPOSED to have around 6 heroes and otherwise it's entirely possible that your guilds keep getting demolished before you can really get going. The bug is responsible for almost every complaint that the game is basically unbeatable as a lot of the game's missions were made with the intention of the player being attacked right as they get their first heroes out. No idea why that fixes it or why this bug was never patched. Toggle VSync in the options and then try it. It's a massive slog to do this with the bug active, but it can be done. You need to make a Wizards Guild, a Wizards Tower, and 2 Wizards and hopefully neither Wizard dies before you can find the time to build either a Rogue's Guild or a Marketplace. The mission is still barely possible without fixing the bug. Without the bug you can make a Ranger's Guild, a Warriors Guild and have a few towers mostly done by that same point of time.
